Aim and Objectives 2009/2010

The below aims and objectives were dicussed and agreed upon at the May 2009 committee meeting

Agreed Aim:
DMEG aims to support dietitians to facilitate  improvement in dietetic care for people with diabetes, through the promotion of high quality, evidence based practice

Objectives:

  1. To facilitate the completion of a university accredited medicines management course for dietitians by the end of 2009
  2. To support the development of a masters level course to aid the accreditation of dietitians to become diabetes specialist dietitians by summer 2010
  3. To provide a structured undergraduate training work package for diabetes dietitians to follow to enable effective training of student dietitians by the end of 2009

 

DMEG Objectives 2006/2007

Following a members questionnaire, the following objectives have been agreed for the period 2006/2007:
  • Development of student training packs / resources
  • Development of protocols, especially for insulin dose adjustment

Progress on Previous Objectives

Completed Work

  • The Consensus Statement relating to Diet and Analogue Insulin has been formally accepted by the BDA and was reported at the March Diabetes UK APC. Available via the BDA & DMEG website and the DUK website.
  • Poster: After consultation with members it has been agreed not to progress with the Balance of Good Health poster redesign & print
  • Link-up Newsletter: The Link-Up is now available in an electronic format.

Ongoing Work

  • Lisa Vaughan and Maria Leveridge have finalised the Benchmarking Tool. The tool has now been submitted to BDA (April 06) for ratification.
  • Diabetes Competence Framework: Maria Leveridge has been working with the Skills for Healt project team who are currently writing competencies for the diabetes care of people with Type 1 diabetes, children (Type 1 and 2), insulin pump therapy, pregnancy, erectile dysfunction and the risk foot.
  • Resources: New resources will continue to be sign-posted on the website. Furthermore, resources are continuously being produced or reviewed by Diabetes UK. DMEG will comment on any relevant future resources prior to going to print.
  • The website is being developed on an ongoing basis. Along with the members only section, there are plans to host a 'discussion forum'.
  • Workforce - In January the DMEG committee submitted detailed comments on the latest draft & we will comment again when the next version is available. Thanks to Brenda Purnell for steering this forward.
