About DMEG

DMEG, founded in 1990, provides a forum for dietitians with a special interest in the care of children and adults with diabetes.

The aim of the group is to improve the dietetic care of people with diabetes, the first objective being to promote the benefits of the dietitian's role within the multidisciplinary team, in primary and secondary care. The development of Specialist Diabetes Dietitian posts over recent years have made major contributions and improved dietetic standards of care within "teams" and to patients.

Aim and Objectives 2009/2010

The below aims and objectives were dicussed and agreed upon at the May 2009 committee meeting.

Agreed Aim

  • DMEG aims to support dietitians to facilitate improvement in dietetic care for people with diabetes, through the promotion of high quality, evidence based practice

Objectives
  • To facilitate the completion of a university accredited medicines management course for dietitians by the end of 2009.
  • To support the development of a masters level course to aid the accreditation of dietitians to become diabetes specialist dietitians by summer 2010.
  • To provide a structured undergraduate training work package for diabetes dietitians to follow to enable effective training of student dietitians by the end of 2009.
